Frenzy Animation, Inc. is an American computer animation film studio based in Houston, Texas. Founded in 2003 by Steve O'Connell, the studio develops and produces animated films, TV shows, and short films and is best known for the animated films Wild Forest (along with its sequel), Plucky Chicken and Birdz for Paramount Pictures, The Chadina Islands, Fairytopia and Araceli for Sony Pictures Animation, Lily & Lester for Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Sunnie and its sequel for 20th Century Animation.

Frenzy's first feature, The Princess and the Pied Piper, was released on December 20, 2006 by Universal Pictures and has produced 14 feature films, with its latest release being Sunnie 2, which was released on October 2, 2020; with their next release being Birdz: The Hidden Village on December 10, 2021. As of 2019, the studio's highest-grossing film is Araceli, which grossed over $849 million worldwide.

History[edit | edit source]

Frenzy Animation started its roots in 2003 by Steve O'Connell. Connell however signed a four-picture deal with IDT Entertainment to co-produce the films and lend the animating services to them. The studio's first film, The Princess and the Pied Piper was released by Universal Pictures in 2006.

In 2007, Richard Gordon (Paramount Feature Animation founder and head of animation at Supreme Entertainment) announced that he will exit Supreme in order to join Frenzy as CEO of Animation. The studio hit big with its first film series Wild Forest in 2008. In October 2019, Frenzy Animation opened its own in-house animation studio in Canada.

Upcoming projects include Birdz: The Hidden Village and Star Skipper for Paramount Pictures, Ami for Netflix, Leaders of Academy: War of the L.O.E.V. for Warner Bros. Pictures, and Araceli 2 for Columbia Pictures.

Process[edit | edit source]

In a similar manner to 20th Century Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, Warner Animation Group and Paramount Animation, Frenzy Animation outsources their feature films to other animation studios. These include Arc Productions (The Princess and the Pied Piper (when it was IDT Entertainment at the time), M.I.S.S.I.O.N., Wild Forest and The Witch's Quest), Sony Pictures Imageworks (The Chadina Islands, Leaders of Academy, Fairytopia and Araceli), and Reel FX Creative Studios (Wild Forest: Circus Getaway (with additional animation by Arc Productions), Plucky Chicken, Lily & Lester, Ami co-animated with Frenzy Animation Canada, and the Sunnie and Birdz franchises co-animated with Mikros Image).
