Megamation Studios, Inc. (simply known as Megamation) is an American animation studio owned by Sony Pictures that produces animated films, short films, and television series located in San Diego, California. The studio is best known for their franchises The Miniatures, Ninja Cat, Ego and Superzeroes. Its’ first film, The Miniatures was released on June 7, 2002 and its latest release was Ego 2.0. on August 7, 2020 with their next release being Superzeroes 2: Dimensions in Danger on June 10, 2022.

Early years[edit | edit source]

Megamation was founded by former Multimedia Animation employees Andrew Speckle, Jim Bailey and production assistant Tom Conner in 1992 to develop animated projects. The studio originally was going to develop traditionally-animated films, but due to the popularity of CG, the studio changed its focus to CG animated projects. In January 1997, Megamation signed a five-film deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to finance, co-produce, and distribute feature films.

Sony era (2006 - present)[edit | edit source]

On September 2006, it was announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment would acquire Megamation for $200 million cash and stock; the acquisition was completed on January 5, 2007.
